
Professor Wang Yupeng, obtained his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from The University of Kitakyushu in Japan. He has served as a postdoctoral researcher at Concordia University (Canada) and Peking University (China), and has worked at Nikken Sekkei group as an urban designer. He is currently a visiting professor at the Politecnico di Milano in Italy, he is serving as a Board Member of the Underground Space Committee of The Architectural Society of China; a Standing Committee Member of the Working Committee on Climate Change Response of the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture; Vice Managing Director of the Healthy Human Settlement (International) Research Committee of Chinese Aging Well Association; Executive Chair of the Shaanxi Provincial Society of Human Settlements Science; Chief Expert of The Decision-Making and Consultation Expert Team of the Shaanxi Provincial Association of Science and Technology; and a Qianjiang Distinguished Expert of Hangzhou City. He is serving as Associate Editor of the international journal “Urban Climate”, Editorial Board Member for “Indoor and Built Environment” and Chinese Journal “Urban Planner”, and Guest Editor for journals such as “Building and Environment” and “Energy and Buildings”.
For many years, he has conducted research on improving the quality and sustainable development of the built environment through interdisciplinary approaches. Specific research areas include urban climate adaptive design, urban spatial design and environmental assessment, green building design and renewable energy utilization, as well as community living circles and pedestrian transportation environments. He received three National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) projects and has responsible for one sub-project under the National Key Basic Research Program. He has published over 50 papers in SCI-indexed journals, 3 of which were selected as ESI Highly Cited Papers. His research and design achievements have been recognized with honors including the Shaanxi Province “Hundred Talents - Youth” award, the Asia Institute of Urban Environment’s “O-prize” (the sole recipient in China in 2019), the International Society of the Built Environment’s “Award of Excellence Young Scholar”, the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) “H.J. Sabbagh Prize for Excellence in Engineering Construction” (the sole global recipient in 2023), and the Asia Institute of Urban Environment’s Innovation Design Award.
He co-founded and used to in charge of China’s first “Human Settlements Science and Technology” program, which is an Emerging Engineering Education, and spearheaded the development of its integrated undergraduate to master’s training model. He has supervised students to participate and won more than ten awards in design competitions, international conferences, and other events.
